Potential effects of SC79-activated Akt signaling in airway cells. Akt activation by SC79 upregulates eNOS phosphorylation to activate the production of NO. It also upregulates Nrf-2 and downstream antioxidant genes. Both TNF-α and flagellin-induced IL-8 levels were lowered by activating the Akt pathway, likely through Nrf-2, affecting NF-κB regulated IL-8 transcription
