TGF-β₁ increases fibronectin mRNA expression. Human lung fibroblasts were untreated (control) or stimulated with TGF-β₁ (2 ng/mL) for 0, 1, 4, 8, 24 and 48 h. Fibronectin mRNA expression was quantified by real-time RT-PCR (results expressed as fold increase compared to control at 0 h). Statistical analysis was performed using two-way ANOVA then Bonferroni's multiple comparisons test (where * denotes a significant effect of TGF-β₁ on fibronectin mRNA expression (P < 0.05)).
