Representative image of myosin heavy chain (MHC) reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction products from the diaphragm of an emphysematous rat, separated by agarose-gel electrophoresis. The higher-molecular-mass product in each lane (labelled MHC) represents the relative amount of mRNA for that MHC isoform: emb (embryonic), neo (neonatal), I, IIa, IIx, or IIb. The lower band (labelled CTL) permits correction according to the efficiency of the amplification in each reaction tube. Note the low level of IIb expression.
