For all experiments 4–5 animals were used per group and measurements done at 2 weeks. * P < 0.05 for comparison between infected tissues and PBS-inoculated controls. **TH bias of rat strain reflects tendency to develop TH1 (cellular) versus TH2 (humoral/allergic) inflammation in response to infection or antigen challenge.
