From: Enhanced effector function of cytotoxic cells in the induced sputum of COPD patients

Figure 2

Proportion of CD8+ T lymphocyte subsets (Panel A), NK (CD56+CD3-) subsets (Panel B) and NKT-like (CD56+CD3+) subsets (Panel C) from the induced sputum of HNS (n = 5), smokers (n = 10) and COPD subjects (n = 11). Panel A shows the proportion of highly cytotoxic effector memory cells (TEMRA; CD8+CD45RO+RA+CD62L-) was significantly increased in COPD subjects compared to HNS (*: p < 0.05) and smokers (**: p < 0.01). Panel B shows the proportion of CD56brightCD16- NK cells was significantly increased in COPD subjects compared to HNS (*: p < 0.05) and smokers (***: p < 0.001). Panel C shows significantly more CD8+CD56+CD3+ cells in the induced sputum of COPD subjects compared to HNS (**: p < 0.01) and smokers (***: p < 0.001).
