The activation of p38 MAPK in VG-induced lung injury. VG administration increased p-p38 MAPK activity and prompted neutrophil migration and fibrotic changes in mice with ALI. Western blots confirmed that the intratracheal injection of LPS increased the expression of adhesion molecules (VLA-4 and VCAM-1), and the central mediator of fibrogenesis (TGF-β), collagen-1, and the p-p38:p38 ratio, in the lungs of these mice. VG administration induced similar effects as LPS administration and enhanced the changes induced by LPS. *p < 0.05 vs. PBS, #p < 0.05 vs. LPS; N = 6 per group
