Depletion of FoxP1 by RNA interference increased intracellular mRNA levels and protein levels in the supernatant of inflammatory mediators and matrix metalloproteinases in lung epithelial cells exposed to cigarette smoke extract. Lung epithelial cells were transfected with dsi RNA targeting FoxP1 (dsi FoxP1) or non-sense RNA (dsi Scramble). Cells were then exposed to 5% cigarette smoke extract overnight. Lysate was processed for RT-PCR and supernatant was collected for ELISA. Result are from 3–-6 samples from independent experiments. Non-parametric tests were used (Mann–Whitney U). *p<0.05, **p<0.01, ***p<0.001
