TGF-β1-induced increase α-SMA and Collagen 1 protein is attenuated by co-exposure to hypoxia. Upregulation of α-SMA a as well as collagen 1 b occurred in a time dependant manner in response to TGF-β1. This increase is attenuated following inclusion of hypoxia. There is no significant change in fibronectin c protein levels in response to hypoxia, TGF-β1 or hypoxia with TGF-β1.
