Representative histochemical cross-sections at the treatment location at (a) 30 days and (b) 640 days post TLD. H&E staining was used to delineate tissue structures in the bronchi. An inner and outer black line delineate the zone of ablation evident by a dense fibrotic scarring in the tissue and highlighted by the cross hatched region in the image. The region between the drawn inner black line and the airway surface is a zone of epithelial protection provided by the cooled balloon and electrode of the catheter. The arrows indicate mucosal glands and the circles indicate nerve fascicles. The letters V, M L, and D indicate the ventral, medial, dorsal, and lateral aspect of the airway, respectively
