Fig. 3

Repetitive ODE exposure-induced neutrophilic alveolitis, but not perivascular lymphoid cell aggregates, are reduced in MyD88 KO mice. Wild-type (WT) and MyD88 knock-out (KO) mice were treated i.n. with saline or ODE daily for 3 weeks, whereupon lung tissues were collected, formalin-fixed, and paraffin embedded. Lung sections (5 μm) were stained for neutrophils (a, Ly-6B.2+) and B cells (c, CD45.R+) with representative images for each treatment group shown. Key: b, bronchiolar airway; a, alveolar parenchyma; v = blood vessel; asterisk, lymphoid aggregates, and arrow Ly-6B.2+ neutrophils (scale bar is 200 μm). Lung sections were semi-quantitatively scored from 0 to 5 (see Methods section) for neutrophilic alveolitis (b) and perivascular lymphoid cells (d). Scatter plots (b, d) depict mean with SEM; N = 6 mice/group (N = 4 male, N = 2 female)
