TGF-β1 induces EMT in primary human lung alveolar type II (HAT II) cells. HAT II cells were cultured as mentioned in the methods. a-g: HAT II cells were incubated with TGF-β1 (0 ng/ml, 5 ng/ml, 10 ng/ml, 20 ng/ml) for 48 h. h-n: HAT II cells were incubated with TGF-β1 10 ng/ml for 0 h, 24 h, 48 h and 72 h. The expression of CDH-1, SP-C, AQP-5, CDH-2, snail, α-SMA and fibronectin were assessed by Real-time PCR. n = 4 for each culture condition, repeated using cells from 4 donors. Data were presented with means ± SEM, *P < 0.05, **P < 0.01, ***P < 0.001, ****P < 0.0001
