Cell Concentration and cell viability in sequential bronchoalveolar lavages performed in lung transplant recipients. Two sequential bronchoalveolar lavages (BALs) were performed in consecutive lung transplant recipients. Cell concentration was measured using an automated cell counter. Cell concentrations did not differ between BAL1 and BAL2 (p = 0.09), which was also confirmed by manual cell count in nine paired BALs (p = 0.2) (a), (b), however cell viability was significantly higher in BAL2 (p < 0.05) (c). A non-parametric Wilcoxon matched-pairs signed rank test was used for comparison
