Treatment with caffeine reduces basal and dexamethasone-induced CTGF protein expression in IMR-90 cells. IMR-90 cells were treated with 1 μM dexamethasone and/or 10 mM caffeine for 24 h. Immunoblotting against CTGF and β-actin was performed as described in Methods. CTGF levels were normalized to those of β-actin, and fold differences compared to untreated cells were calculated. Means + SD of n = 4 independent experiments are shown. DEX, dexamethasone; *p < 0.05 and ***p < 0.001 compared to untreated controls; ### p < 0.001 compared to cells treated with dexamethasone
