EMMPRIN overexpression induces resistance of normal human lung fibroblasts to apoptosis: Growth arrested NHLF overexpressing either EMMPRIN/GFP or GFP were treated with TGF- β1 from 0 to 10 ng/ml for 24 h in the presence and absence of 0.5 mM of Staurosporine (STS) added for 3 h prior to the end of the experiments. Apoptosis was measured by FACS analysis (a-b) using annexin V/PI staining and cell death detection ELISA assay (c). Relative apoptosis is expressed as a percentage of the assay-positive control that was run on the ELISA plate for each experiment. All samples were run in triplicate for each ELISA and FACS analysis. ** p < 0.001 comparing GFP to EMMPRIN/GFP transfected cells (n = 3 independent experiments)
