The amount of α-SMA was evaluated by Western analysis. A total of two cell lines derived from control lung and three cell lines derived from IPF lung were used for α-SMA quantification on day 3 (a). Pirfenidone reduced α-SMA expression significantly. One IPF derived sample was used to evaluate α-SMA expression after a single exposure to 0.5 mM pirfenidone or 0.5 μM nintedanib on days 2, 3 and 7 (b). (*p < 0.05, KW test)
