The effects of airway samples on markers of basophil activation. Purified peripheral blood basophils from 8 mild allergic asthmatic subjects were suspended in RPMI-C and cultured for 18 h with PBS as negative control (open bars) or IL-3 (10 ng/mL) as positive control (dark grey bars) or sputum supernatant collected from dual responders at 0 h, 7 h, and 24 h post-allergen (black bars) then measured for expression of (a) CD203c, (b) IL-4, and (c) IL-13.
