Effects of acute smoking on expression of neutrophil activation markers in young subjects. Values are expressed as median fluorescence intensity (MFI) with range, before and two hours after smoking. The responses to cigarette smoke within groups were analyzed by Wilcoxon signed-rank tests. Differences in responses to cigarette smoke between susceptible and non-susceptible groups were analyzed by comparing delta’s (Tafter-Tbefore) using Whitney U tests. *p < 0.05, NS = not significant.
