Arrow heads indicate elastin and the boxes in a and b indicate alveolar rim regions. Staining patterns demonstrate the reciprocal relationships between versican and elastin and EBP. Inserts show segments of alveolar wall (× 500). Staining intensity values are 1 for c and f and 5 for d and e.
