Desipramine and fluoxetine inhibit release of TNF-Ī± in serum of LPS-treated mice. A, Mice (n = 12 per group) were injected with saline or LPS (50 mg/kg, i.p.). After 90 min, blood was collected and serum concentration of TNF-Ī± was measured. Concentration was 38 Ā± 12 pg/ml in saline and 4364 Ā± 265 pg/ml in LPS-treated mice. *p < 0.0001 versus saline, by Welch t test. B, Mice (n = 6ā€“12 per group) were i.p. injected with saline or the indicated doses of desipramine, fluoxetine or prednisolone 30 min before administration of LPS. Blood was collected 90 min after LPS treatment, and serum concentration of TNF-Ī± was measured. Data are shown as the percentage of LPS-induced TNF-Ī± release. *p < 0.05 and **p < 0.001 versus LPS alone, by ANOVA with Bonferroni post-test.
