TNFα is not essential to clearance of NTHi from the lungs. Mice received an injection with an anti-TNF or control antibody (both i.p.), and inhaled salmeterol or vehicle before intranasal inoculation with 107 CFU NTHi. Salmeterol but not anti-TNF inhibited bacterial clearance in infected lungs 24 h post-challenge. * p < 0.05 versus vehicle. Values are mean ± SEM of 8 mice per group.
