Densitometric analysis of bands on RPAs. (A): the density of the bands representing the mediator mRNAs in AM/HBEC co-cultures on autoradiographs such as that shown in Figure 1A was compared to that of the GAPDH mRNA band in the same lane and the resulting ratio (PM10; black bars) is shown as the percentage change from control values (white bars). The mean densitometric value confirmed that the mRNA levels of MIP-1β, GM-CSF, MCP-1, IL-6 and ICAM-1 at 2 h and those of MIP-1β, GM-CSF, M-CSF and ICAM-1 after 24 h exposure were significantly higher than control values. Values are means ± SE of six experiments representing the AM/HBEC co-culture group. (B): the mean densitometric value confirmed that the mRNA levels of GM-CSF, LIF and ICAM-1 at 24 h exposure were significantly higher than control values.
