Enoxaparin and Akt deficient mice reduced hyperoxia-augmented lung stretch-induced neutrophil sequestration and HMGB1 production. Myeloperoxidase (MPO) assay of lung tissue (A) and high-mobility group box-1 (HMGB1) production in bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid (B) were from control, nonventilated mice and mice ventilated at VT 30 ml/kg for 8 hours with room air or hyperoxia. Enoxaparin, 4 mg/kg, was given subcutaneously 30 minutes before ventilation (n = 5 per group). * P < 0.05 versus control, nonventilated mice; † P < 0.05 versus all other groups. Akt+/- = Akt deficient mice; LMWH = enoxaparin; RA = mice with room air.
