Insets depicts a high-power view, highlighting the expression of GDF-15 in endothelial cells. Smooth muscle cells exhibit a weaker signal (arrowhead). Alveolar macrophages show a strong signal for GDF-15 (asterisks). A weak signal for GDF-15 was noted in alveolar and bronchial epithelial cells.
