From: Matrix metalloproteinase-9 predicts pulmonary status declines in α1-antitrypsin deficiency
Primary and secondary analyses of incremental annual acute exacerbations of COPD (AECOPDs) predicted per interquartile higher level of MMP-9. The primary analysis controls for age, gender, race-ethnicity, leukocyte count, and tobacco pack-years. Secondary analyses control for the same covariates as those used in primary analyses and one of the following: hs-CRP, FEV1, FEV1/FVC, or COPD exacerbation in the prior period.
