  1. P values depicted in bold indicate associations significant (p < 0.05) in the pooled cohort analysis within never- or ever-smokers.
  2. *p < 0.05 for a positive recessive effect in ever and never smokers in the pooled cohort analysis (p > 0.05 for the analysis concerning separate cohorts)
  3. None of the SNP in any model showed significantly different effect between never and ever smokers as tested with the pooled cohort linear regression analysis containing interaction term (binary variable reflecting smoking status) adjusted for height, sex, age, cohort and ever/never smoking status. Two underlined KEAP1 variations showed a significant interaction with packyears smoked in an additive model within ever-smokers in the pooled cohort analysis:
  4. rs1048290: BINT = 1.9 ml/(packyear*number of alleles) SEINT = 0.9 p = 0.03
  5. Haplotype B: BINT = 1.9 ml/(packyear*number of alleles) SEINT = 0.9 p = 0.04
