The relative RNA transcript for a) TIM-1, b) TIM-3, c) IL-2, d) IFN-γ, e) IL-13 and f) galectin-9 (gal-9) in BALF CD4 ⁺ T cells of all sarcoidosis patients (n = 28) , including patient subgroups: patients with Löfgren's syndrome (n = 13) , non-Löfgren's (n = 15) patients and healthy controls (n = 8) was measured. TIM-3 mRNA levels were significantly decreased in sarcoidosis patients compared to controls (p = 0.02), while the mRNA levels of IL-2 were significantly increased in sarcoidosis patients comparing to controls (p = 0.008). The relative TIM-1 mRNA levels were significantly decreased (p = 0.03), while IFN-γ mRNA expression was elevated (p = 0.03) in non- Löfgren's patients compared to Löfgren's patients.
