There are significantly more TUNEL (+) cells in the emphysema lungs (PPE-treated WT mice) compared to the lungs of HE, KO, and control mice (p < 0.01, C: wide type mice with saline; C+/-: heterozygous mice with saline; C-/-: homozygous deficiency mice with saline). In PlGF KO mice, there is weekly PPE instillation followed by exogenous PlGF at a dose of 1 mg/kg via intra-tracheal route.
